Painterly Rendering dynamically "paints" images. The user may select from a variety of painting styles, such as Impressionist, Expressionist, and Pointillist to create beautiful painted versions of images that they supply as still images or video. When it processes video, it only updates the areas that change, and so it can artistically process the images in real time. This unique system also produces superior results by mimicking techniques used by human painters. The demonstration that the CAT has developed uses a video camera to feed the Painterly Rendering system with images and project these images onto a large canvas. Therefore, it appears to users that they are seeing a mirror that reflects in paint.
